Mr. Malet is also the Chairman of the AmericanChamber of Commerce in Spain (AmChamSpain – www.amchamspain.com) since 2002. Founded in 1917, AmChamSpain boasts 280 member companies (large U.S. & Spanish companies and SMEs), which represent, in annual sales in Spain, approximately 24% of the Spanish GDP (data from 2016). Throughout his term as Chairman – a pro-bono position elected by members every three years - Mr. Malet has strengthened the entity, today an influential business advocacy group in Spain. Over the last two decades, Mr. Malet has played a role as a trusted connection between consecutive Spanish Governments and the global business community. Mr. Malet is the Chairman of the BoA of Zurich Insurance Group in Spain and member of BoDs or senior advisor of other multinationals and funds.
Mr. Malet is a member of the World Economic Forum experts network and attends Davos annually; member of Consejo de Acción Empresarial of CEOE (Spanish Employers Association); member of the Boards of Trustees of the Spanish-U.S. Council, Fundación Joan Bosca and of Fundación Código Venezuela.
For the past 30 years, he has devoted an important part of his pro-bono time in promoting civil society organizations dedicated to the internationalization and competitiveness of the Spanish economy, the relationship between the U.S. and Europe, and the economic and political stability of Spain and Latin America. Among his great passions:the mentoring of young talent, the analysis of the effects of digital disruptions in society and the support for gender equality in business leadership. A recognized thought leader and frequent contributor for Spanish news outlets, Mr. Malet has spoken in national and international forums.
Mr. Malet holds a Law Degree (JD) from the University of Barcelona (1982-1987); a Master’s Degree (LL.M.) in International Law and Economics from the University of Houston (1987-1989) and a Senior Advanced Business Program (PADE) at IESE Business School (2001-2002). He started his career in Arthur Andersen.
